Prometheus
Track: Prometheus
Just who is Prometheus and what’s the deal behind this track? Well if you’re not familiar with the myth then check it out on Wikipedia. Greek mythology has him as the son of a Titan and a figure that played around a bit with Zeus, the king of the gods. He stole fire and gave it to humanity – and for his trouble he was punished eternally by being chained to a rock and having his liver eaten by an eagle then regenerating overnight because of his immortality. Pandora factors into the story as well with Hope left in her pot, but she’s a minor player in this tale…
While starting out with another tempo-setting drum line and Access Virus lead sequence, this track quickly deconstructs almost completely and blossoms into a mellow ride for the most part. An objective listener might be tempted to call it a filler track at first glance but I challenge you to listen in depth and give it some critical thought. The heavy sub bass, the oddly-timed piano pieces and mildly panning arpeggios will make this track worthy of a second listen in my opinion as it does betray the casual ear. This is a common theme in the album but can get hidden if you aren’t paying attention. These simple tracks can get lost amidst the higher tempo stuff and thought of as not as complex, which isn’t really the case.
