Adrift
Track: Adrift
“Adrift” is by far my favorite track on the album. This track segues so easily from the hard drum sounds of “Digitalis” and serves as a bridge to the next track “Off the Shoulder of Orion” so effortlessly.
Combining a lot of elements here in this track to try and keep it subtle was a bit of a challenge. The tempo matches the fastest on the album at 140bpm but there aren’t any percussive cues to clue in your mind that it’s that quick. The LFOs actually change for each note pressed in the thundering bass sequence. The arps fade in and out with each other and lead you on into this trancing space. I wish this track never ended to be honest, but I had to move on.
Think about space travel. In the context of reality and a lot of science fiction to get anywhere off this planet is going to require a lot of downtime at first. Some speculate about cryogenically sleeping during journeys. “Adrift” is meant to be that lull between actions. We glide in a sort of stasis with this track before being snapped back to attention rather abruptly.
